One connection, useful workflows

What can website SMTP help you send?

SMTP lets a website or application hand an email to an email delivery provider. Brevo can then deliver messages such as these, subject to your account configuration and sending limits.

01 / TRANSACTIONAL

Contact form confirmations

Let visitors know their message was received, and send your team a copy so enquiries do not get missed.

02 / WEBSITE & APP

Account and service emails

Use SMTP for appropriate automated messages such as account notifications, booking updates, or service requests.

03 / MARKETING

Campaigns and newsletters

Marketing email is a different workflow. Use Brevo's campaign tools, consent records, unsubscribe handling, and applicable sending rules.

Simple behind the scenes

How the email flow works

Your website keeps the SMTP login and key on the server. Visitors only submit the form; they never see the secret credentials.

Send a test message ↘
1

A visitor submits the form

The server validates the name, email address and message, and checks basic anti-spam protections.

2

PHP connects securely to Brevo

The server connects to smtp-relay.brevo.com over port 587 using STARTTLS and your SMTP credentials.

3

Two separate emails are sent

The visitor receives a confirmation, while your configured inbox receives the enquiry details.

4

Test, then publish

Confirm that the sender address is verified in Brevo, check inbox and spam folders, and test from your live HostGator domain.

A few important distinctions

SMTP is the delivery connection—not a marketing shortcut.

Keep transactional notifications relevant to the action a visitor took. For promotional campaigns, collect valid consent, identify the sender clearly, and provide an unsubscribe option. Configure SPF, DKIM and DMARC for your sending domain to support authentication and deliverability.
